Description

This palm rarely exceeds ten feet in height and is attractive because of its delicate leaves and interesting trunk.
It is a native of Laos and was first brought to he west by a German botanic named Roebelin who had encountered the palm in Thailand.
This is a dwarf low growing palm that is ideal for container culture. While it may survive in full sun situations, this slow growing palm thrives in partial shade or in tropical plantings where they are planted under or protected by other vegetation.
This delightful little palm is a favorite landscape item in areas where it is hardy. Pygmy date palm will slowly grow to about
8' or 10'. The stem is covered with old leaf bases and is topped with a dense head of rich green pinnate leaves.

Location
Phoenix roebelenii is native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, in particular Thailand and Burma. This popular little palm is now grown around the world indoors and out.

Culture
Very adaptable to different type of soils. Fertilize 3 times a year.

Usage
Pygmy date palm looks great by patios and entry ways. Also nice combined with evergreen shrubs in a mixed hedge.
